Coast2Bay's DA rejected by Cooroy community in historic 100% negative response

Cooroy rejects Coast2Bay DA for 25 +1 units on Lot 1 . Back to the drawing board?

In a meeting nearby residents arranged with Council's Housing Project Team, Coast2Bay's CEO Andrew Elvin agreed to work with the residents of Cooroy to develop an agreeable DA for 64 Lake Macdonald Drive.

This did not occur and Coast2Bay's Affordable Housing DA received an historic 51 letters of objection out of 51 formal submissions in its November 2025 public notification period.

Many of the grounds for objection reflect the issues on this website. Many new ones are due to the DA proposal itself. Some of these are:

  • the proposed 3 storey aesthetic of the development being inconsistent with the 2 storey Cooroy Local Plan and surrounding low density residential and cemetery location

  • inadequate onsite parking

  • loss of cemetery land without evidence how this can be sustained

  • inadequate stormwater detention

  • poor access to town facilities for the proposed vulnerable tenants

  • provision for a second cemetery access road loading additional traffic onto Dianella Court

  • various non compliances with the Noosa Plan 2020 (Amendment 2) performance outcomes including boundary setbacks and inconvenient access for garbage collection

All of the submissions can be seen by following this link to Council's planning page and clicking on the Documents drop down icon near the bottom of the page.

What can Council do with such an unpopular and flawed DA. Unfortunately for Coast2Bay it looks like it's back to the drawing board.
